With the untimely passing of Alexander McQueen last year, tributes to the late designer haven’t ceased to flood in and take over the fashion world. While everyone expected a few months worth of hype, whereby everyone would snatch up his high-end items, it’s continued for nearly two years. In this time, his impact to the streets is as though he never left, as his ranges haven’t lost any momentum in attracting popular names or the buying public.
With 2012 just around the corner, why should we expect any different? 11th February (the date of his passing) will forever be marked down as a chance to celebrate his work. As too will each anniversary of the recent Royal Wedding – in which Kate Middleton wore a dress adorned with the Alexander McQeen name. This said, what exactly of Alexander McQueen’s are people flocking towards and what should we be watching out for?
It won’t take long for you to notice McQ here, there and everywhere, once you start looking for it. Did you watch Rihanna’s X-Factor performance? That was an Alexander McQueen. Have you been watching any red carpets lately? If you seen tartan, you can probably bet money on it being from the late Lewisham designer and Sarah Burton (who’s the current creative director of the brand). The Alexander McQueen Tartan Puffball dress has been seen on Emma Watson, Cheryl Cole and more, so it’s only a matter of time before everyone else clocks onto its hypnotic charm.
For those who don’t fancy shelling out on nearly £500 worth of dress, however, a little touch of McQ can be achieved through one of the year’s most popular accessories, the Alexander McQueen scarf. The unisex item has been spotted on A-Listers from the States to the UK estates, with everyone from Lindsay Lohan and Russel Brand, right through to Taio Cruz and Mel C rocking it. It’s timeless characteristics mean we probably haven’t come close to seeing it disappear from the necks of the fashion-conscious just yet. Which ever you opt to roll with, make sure you’re not the only one without a bit of Alexander McQueen in your wardrobe.
